Australia Treats

It is now 9 days and counting until I leave for my big trip down under!! I am so unbelievably excited but really nervous as well about being so far away for 3 months. But I can’t wait to start my fashion PR internship. I decided to treat myself to some clothing spends as I never had a hot holiday this year I did deserve a bit of ‘holiday’ shopping don’t you think?! Managed to snap up a pair of the famous Topshop scallop shorts on eBay which I’ve wanted for ages so very very happy about that!

Topshop scallop denim shorts, Topshop cream fringing top, Primark blue blazer, Primark cream shirt, H&M monochrome dress, Primark (like Topshop’s) studded clutch, ASOS spiked necklace

Swan Print

How cute are these Topshop swan print shorts please?!

Just wanted to post the link to my WIWT account actually! http://wiwt.com/user/elaine_xo/ (‘What I Wore Today’). Came across this random website on someone else’s blog and I love it! Basically you can post photos of what you’re wearing once a day and tag each garment to let other users know where you bought them. I’m kind of cheating a bit and just using old photos at the moment. I’m very addicted, it’s such a clever idea!

Trend Alert

As I noticed whilst out shopping yesterday one of the new in-colours is khaki which makes me very happy as I’ve always been a fan of the military trend. One of the best purchases I’ve ever made was a military jacket from Mango in York when I was 16 for about £45 and I still wear it to this day. It’s one of those items of clothing that lasts for a lifetime and never goes out of style. I found these amazing shorts in Topshop yesterday. Sadly I tried them on and they’re more like hotpants than shorts which I HATE because I like to keep covered up (hotpants aren’t fashion, they are just an excuse for child sluts to show off their bums) so obviously sitting round my waist instead of my hips I couldn’t buy them. I am now on a mission to find some khaki denim shorts which I can add gold studs to myself. Also on my wishlist are some khaki skinny jeans. And of course I still really want the khaki and leather contrast jacket from my earlier post!

One thing I do really love about winter fashion is the footwear. Mainly because I’m more of a chunky boots kinda girl than a dainty summer sandal wearer. And once I’m back from Australia in December I will still have over two months left to peruse my winter wardrobe. Here were my five favourite shoe picks of 2011 trends. When I get back in December I’m going to compare how much the style has changed in a year. (Still trying to track some of these badboys down on ebay!)

Black vs. White

Two recent outfits for nights out showing two different sides of my style. For a fancier night out I opted for a chiffon white asymmetric dress from inlovewithfashion.com teamed with my spiked boots and a Topshop silver leaf necklace. For a more rock-themed night out I decided to wear a leather Miss Selfridge top, PU H&M skirt, neon H&M necklace, Primark striped blazer and bright pink-purple New Look heels. I am as versatile as a chameleon!

Neon Brights

Without a doubt my favourite current trend right now is neon yellow. I never thought it would be my thing but now when I go shopping I find myself picking up everything in this colour and now I have shoes and a necklace I want more. I seriously need this skirt! I think it’s such a great trend to just add a pop of colour to a simple, minimalistic outfit.

I have always been a little sceptical towards jumpsuits and having never tried one on before I still don’t know if I would suit them but here are two I found today that I am in love with. I think they are just amazing! Sadly the aztec Miss Selfridge one has sold out but the khaki one is from Love (at Topshop or inlovewithfashion.com) and I am considering it to be one of my Australia purchases. It would look really good with flat gladiator sandals during the day or heels for night.

Asymmetric Hems

Undoubtedly my favourite ever skirt trend the asymmetric/drop hem/mixi/mullet skirt (or whatever you want to call it) is the perfect item to dress up an outfit and with so much colour choice it doesn’t have to be girly. This trend actually cropped up last year within the Love brand at Topshop and I thought it was amazing, but people have only just started wearing it and most shops have only discovered it this season. The great thing is they aren’t even expensive. This black one is the nicest I’ve found and it’s only actually from New Look for around £20 (can’t remember the exact price). Topshop have some very nice ones too; see one of my previous posts for a gorgeous oxblood one. Of course they are slightly more expensive with it being Topshop but in the £30 price range. I currently own a few dresses in this style but only one skirt. It’s nude and it goes with a variety of looks such as a girly bralet and courts or a vintage leather vest top, blazer and chunky heels. Or for a more casual option you can just wear flip flops and a vest with it on a summer’s day. How will you wear yours?

Recent Randoms

Just some of my recent summer snaps including last night’s outfit (Motel red ‘Jet’ v-neck playsuit and New Look wedges) and some holiday photos from Scotland with the fam! Of course my family found it ridiculous that I went on a 9.5k walk in a gold metallic jumper, floral shorts and Carvela military boots but this is me we’re talking about.

Summer Days

A couple of summery days allowing room for some summer wardrobe wearing. Today I took the opportunity to wear some of this week’s purchases teaming my Primark monochrome blazer with some casual H&M white shorts, H&M black vest, fluro yellow H&M shoes and neon H&M necklace. (Need to start shopping somewhere other than H&M clearly!) I love this look as you could just switch the flats for heels for a night out which would dress up the shorts a bit.

Outfit number two: I bought this skirt from Topshop last summer but have only worn it a handful of times. Suddenly I have discovered a massive love for it and have been wearing it loads. Same with these Urban Outfitters long socks which I think I’ve worn twice since getting them for Christmas but they’re lovely! Tan flats and nude top are both from New Look which is surprising as they aren’t very New Look-esque.

At this point in time I would normally be sad about summer coming to an end especially as this British summer has been particularly disappointing this year. However I will soon be jetting off to Sydney where my summer wardrobe will last till December!
